Arriving by car

The Thompson Island ferry uses the EDIC dock located on Drydock Avenue near (but not at) the Black Falcon Cruise Terminal in South Boston. The EDIC dock is a public dock, identified by Thompson Island banners on the street leading to it, and marked with a Thompson Island sign on the fence around it. However, it is wise to allow plenty of time to find the dock the first time you visit.

Short- and long-term parking is available at the EDIC garage at 10 Drydock Ave. Instead of turning right to the dock, continue down Drydock Ave. for one-quarter mile; the garage will be on your left.  Park and walk back approximately three blocks to the Thompson Island ferry dock. It is recommended that you drop your luggage and passengers at the dock first.

BHSFS campers who park at EDIC will receive a special rate for the week, which is $20/day for the 6 days for a total of $120. Everybody who is parking needs a Folk Arts Center-generated "parking pass" or ID to get this rate, and they will pay in the office on the way out. These passes will be included with your Welcome Packets that you will receive on the dock upon arrival.

Parking procedure for the week: Take a ticket when entering the garage on the day you arrive. When leaving camp, go into the office, tell the attendant you are with the Fiddle School and be prepared to pay IN CASH. They will then validate your ticket and you can leave the garage normally.

Visitors’ Day parking: You are welcome to park in the EDIC garage at their standard rates.
